WASHINGTON — House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy is scheduled to speak at a Sept. 20 joint dinner of the board of directors of the American Bakers Association and the Allied Trades of the Baking Industry.

“We are very excited to roll out our fall guest lineup with a leader like Congressman McCarthy,” said Robb MacKie, president and chief executive officer of the A.B.A. “Congressman McCarthy is a rising star who has already earned a great deal of respect and trust around town. I know we will have a great evening together and that both boards will benefit from his insight.”

Mr. McCarthy, who is a representative of California, was a small business owner and state assemblyman before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2006. He was elected as House Majority Whip at the commencement of the 112th Congress.

“The current budget crisis is a problem not only for us in D.C., but for our member businesses across the country,” Mr. MacKie said. “We look forward to hearing Congressman McCarthy’s perspective on this critical issue, and the many other priorities facing us this year. His perspective as a political leader will be all the more relevant.”

The A.B.A. and A.T.B.I. boards will gather Sept. 21 for a special joint meeting in Washington.
