MINNEAPOLIS — Cargill plans to introduce Clear Valley Omega-3 Oil, a blend of canola and flaxseed oil, at I.F.T. 10, the Institute of Food Technologists’ annual meeting and food exposition July 18-20 in Chicago. Cargill recently completed a self-determined Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) project on the ingredient. In most applications it provides a minimum of 160 mg of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid.

Clear Valley Omega-3 Oil is patent-pending and available for product trial testing. Cargill at its I.F.T. booth will feature a granola bar prototype that contains the new oil and Cargill’s Barliv barley betafiber. Other potential applications for Clear Valley Omega-3 Oil include cookies, cereal bars, crackers, snacks and spreads.

“As heart health is top of mind for many consumers, Cargill developed Clear Valley Omega-3 Oil to help manufacturers who want to seamlessly deliver heart-healthy products to this market,” said Willie Loh, vice-president in Cargill’s oils and shortening business.
