CLOSTER, N.J. – American Key Food Products has introduced a line of non-bioengineered, potato-based maltodextrins to the North American market. The Closter-based company will market the maltodextrins under the Kyrosan brand name. The Emsland Group, based in Germany, manufactures them.

The Kyrosan maltodextrins are hydrolyzed, spray-dried potato starches. In convenience dry mixes such as hot soups and sauces, they have been shown to prevent clumping when hot water is added. In the manufacture of dry sausages, they have been shown to slow fermentation, which allows pH value to be regulated more precisely. In bakery creams, they have been shown to replace milk solids while regulating sweetness and improving body and texture.
