WASHINGTON — Frozen stocks of cheese and eggs on Feb. 28, 2010, were greater than year-earlier levels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Cold Storage report.
Total natural cheese stocks were 983,622,000 lbs, up 1% from January and up 10% from February 2009.
Butter stocks were 198,071,000 lbs, up 18% from January levels but down 3% from February 2009.
Total frozen egg stocks on Feb. 28 were 24,095,000 lbs, down 1% from January but up 9% from February 2009. Stocks of egg whites were 3,243,000 lbs, down 6% from the previous month but up 16% from the previous year. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 641,000 lbs, down 26% from the previous month and year. Whole and mixed egg stocks came in at 6,457,000 lbs, down 13% from January and down 30% from February 2009. Unclassified egg stocks totaled 13,754,000 lbs, up 9% from January and up 50% from a year earlier.
Turkey stocks totaled 345,810,000 lbs, up 14% from January but down 25% from February 2009, and total chicken stocks were 624,323,000 lbs, down 1% from the previous month and down 4% from the previous year. Total frozen poultry supplies were 974,083,000 lbs, up 4% from January but down 13% from February 2009, the U.S.D.A. said.
Total red meat supplies were 939,825,000 lbs, slightly above January levels but down 13% from the previous year. Total frozen beef stocks were 401,601,000 lbs, down 6% from the previous month and down 8% from the previous year. Frozen pork stocks totaled 516,801,000 lbs, up 5% from the previous month but down 17% from the previous year. Frozen pork belly stocks were 55,602,000 lbs, up 4% from January but down 27% from the previous year.
Total frozen vegetable stocks were 2,138,059,000, down 8% from January but up 8% from a year earlier.
Stocks of frozen french fries were 903,546,000 lbs, up 1% from January but down 4% from February 2009.
Stocks of all types of frozen fruit totaled 1,122,325,000 lbs, down 8% from January 2010 but up 8% from a year ago.
Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate were 1,294,500,000 lbs, slightly above levels of the previous month and up 3% from the previous year.
Fresh apples in regular and controlled storage totaled 3,364,321,000 lbs, down 18% from January and down 8% from February 2009.
