WASHINGTON — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in February was $8.56 per bu, up $1.85 from $6.71 in January and up $3.83 from $4.73 in February 2010, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agricultural Prices report.

The average price paid for winter wheat in February was $8.13 a bu, up $1.76 from $6.37 in January and up $3.60 from $4.53 in February 2010. The average price paid for durum was $9.39, up $2.32 from $7.07 in January and up $4.78 from $4.61 in February 2010. Spring wheat other than durum averaged $9.09 per bu, up $1.96 from $7.13 in January and up $4.05 from $5.04 in February 2010.

The average price paid for rough rice in February was $13.90 a cwt, up $1 from $12.90 in January but down 90c from $14.80 a year earlier.

The February index of prices received for food grains was 261 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, up 20% from 217 the previous month and up 50% from 174 in February 2010.

The February index for feed grains was 233, up 11% from 209 in January and up 52% from 153 in February 2010. The average price paid to farmers for corn was $5.66 a bu, up 72c from $4.94 in January and up $2.11 from $3.55 in February 2010. Farmers received an average of $10.40 a cwt for grain sorghum in February, up 95c from $9.45 in January and up $4.96 from $5.44 in February 2010. The average price paid for oats in February was $3.38, up 27c from $3.11 in January and up $1.08 from $2.30 in February 2010.

The index of February prices received for oilseeds was 217, up 5% from 207 in January and up 29% from 168 in February 2010. Farmers received an average of $12.10 a bu for soybeans in February, up 50c from $11.60 in January and up $2.69 from $9.41 in February 2010.

The February index for dairy products was 141, up 10% from 128 in January and up 16% from 122 in February 2010. The average price paid to farmers for all milk in February was $18.40 a cwt, up $1.70 from $16.70 in January and up $2.50 from $15.90 in February 2010.

The poultry and egg index was 142, up 1% from 141 in January but down 2% from 145 in February 2010. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs in February was 95c a dozen, up 10c from 85c in January and up 3c from 92c in January 2010.
