WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread and whole wheat bread fell in February, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 139.8c, down 0.3c per lb from January but up 4.7c from February 2010. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread rose in one region — up 1.6c in the South — and fell in two regions — down 2.2c in the West and down 0.3c in the Midwest. The B.L.S. once again did not report an average price for the Northeast.
At 186.4c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 2c per lb from January, but was up 12.3c per lb from February 2010.
The national average price of family flour in February was 49.4c per lb, up 1.7c from January but down 0.2c from February 2010.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in February was 111.6c per lb, down 9.3c from January and down 4.7c from February 2010. Chocolate chip cookies were 312.3c per lb, down 17.5c from January and down 14.3c from February 2010.
