ASB Baking Hall of Fame
The American Society of Baking has selected this year’s inductees to the Baking Hall of Fame.

There’s something to be said about dedication to making the baking industry a stronger one. That’s the message heard loud and clear from the American Society of Baking with this year’s selection of inductees to the Baking Hall of Fame.

As founder and c.e.o. of Nashville-based The Bakery Cos., Cordia Harrington not only proved she is a savvy and successful business operator, but she also has helped make the industry better by tirelessly serving on numerous boards that include the McDonald’s Supplier Advisory Council and the American Bakers Association. She willingly shares best practices and strongly supports the next generation of bakery owners. Moreover, her capacity to educate and innovate has helped push the industry forward as it tackles new challenges.

Then there are cousins Mike and Larry Marcucci of Chicago-based Alpha Baking Co. Mike Marcucci, Alpha’s chairman, served as A.B.A. chair while Larry Marcucci, the company’s c.e.o., worked with A.S.B. in numerous roles, including chair of the society. Like Ms. Harrington, they have given countless hours to industry-supportive meetings and conventions and mentoring young baking professionals while building a highly successful and respected baking company.

It’s terrific that the society recognizes not only the past legends of the industry — this year adding Bill Mead and Connie Lane who made Campbell Taggart Associated Bakeries (now part of Bimbo USA) one of the largest U.S. baking companies during the 20th century — but also current leaders like Ms. Harrington and the Marcuccis who continue to work so hard to secure our industry’s strength into the future
