BEMA’s 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award will honor Fred Springer.

OVERLAND PARK, KAS. — BEMA announced that its 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Fred Springer, president of Burford Corp. Mr. Springer was the chairman of BEMA in 2001 and, since 2013, continues to be a BEMA representative on the International Baking Industry Expo committee.

As an industry icon for many years, Mr. Springer’s approach to success is to “get involved and make something happen.” For him, this includes serving on multiple boards — the American Bakers Association (A.B.A.), American Institute of Baking (AIB) and Allied Trades of the Baking Industry — inviting bakers to attend BEMA’s Convention, instituting the Lifetime Achievement Award and playing a significant role in the creation of BEMA Tech.

“Fred’s decades of dedication, commitment, wise council and investment have had a uniquely positive effect on moving the mission of BEMA and the entire industry forward,” said Kerwin Brown, president and chief executive officer, BEMA. “His diplomatic leadership has been instrumental in creating and sustaining a culture of cooperation, innovation and commitment with so many other organizations.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented at BEMA’s luncheon at noon on Sunday, Feb. 25, the closing event ofBEMA’s Summit
