WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 1.6c per lb in February, while the price for whole wheat bread decreased 2.2c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 126.5c, down 1.6c per lb from January and down 9.3c from February 2017. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in February decreased in three regions — down 4c in the Northeast, down 1.9c in the South and down 0.3c in the West — and increased in one region — up 0.3c in the Midwest.

At 201.1c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 2.2c per lb from January but up 2.5c per lb from February 2017.

The national average price of family flour in February was 47c per lb, down 0.1c from January and down 5.6c from February 2017.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in February was 117.6c per lb, down 4.2c from January and down 11.4c from February 2017. Chocolate chip cookies were 372.5c per lb, up 4.4c from January and up 33.5c from February 2017. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 69.1c per lb, up 0.9c from January but down 0.4c from February 2017.
