WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 1.4c per lb in June, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. Meanwhile, the price of whole wheat bread also fell, declining 7c per lb in the month.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 127.9c, down 1.4c per lb from May and down 5.6c from June 2017. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in June increased in three regions — up 2.3c in the West, up 1.3c in the Midwest and up 0.3c in the Northeast — and fell in one region — down 5.4c in the South.

At 189.6c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 7c per lb from May and down 13.6c per lb from June 2017. The average price for whole wheat bread is down 14.3c per lb over the past three months and is at its lowest level since July 2011.

The national average price of family flour in June was 46.9c per lb, unchanged from May but down 3.8c from June 2017.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in June was 120.1c per lb, up 5.8c from May but down 8c from June 2017. Chocolate chip cookies were 349c per lb, up 9c from May but down 8.5c from June 2017. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 68.9c per lb, down 0.9c from May and down 6.3c from June 2017.
