FORT WAYNE, IND. — Seyfert’s, a maker of potato and tortilla chips, pretzels, popcorn, and cheese puffs and cheese curls, will cease operations, according to a report from WPTA-TV.

Founded in 1934, the company was acquired by Borden in 1982 and, after a few other corporate changes, was acquired by Troyer Potato Products in 2001.

According to WPTA, Seyfert’s received national exposure when Myrtle Young — the “Potato Chip Lady” — appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” in 1987. Ms. Young was showing off her prized collection of chips that resembled objects or celebrities when Mr. Carson bit into an “ordinary” potato chip that Ms. Young thought was part of her collection.
