ZURICH, SWITZERLAND — Barry Callebaut Group has reached an agreement with Burton’s Biscuit Co. under which Barry Callebaut has committed to supply more than 12,000 tonnes of chocolate and compound per year to the United Kingdom’s second biggest biscuit maker.

In addition to the supply agreement, Barry Callebaut said it will acquire Burton’s chocolate facility in Moreton, Wirral, near Liverpool, U.K. Barry Callebaut said it plans to continue making chocolate at the Moreton facility.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Burton’s Biscuit Co. bakes biscuits and snacks under the Maryland, Jammie Dodgers and Wagon Wheels brands. The company is headquartered in St. Albans, U.K., and operates manufacturing plants in Blackpool, Edinburgh and Llantarnam, and a chocolate refinery in Moreton.

Nick Field, c.e.o. of Burton’s Food Ltd., said Barry Callebaut shares Burton’s passion and motivation for baking.

“This new partnership, with their larger network and enhanced capabilities, directly supports our intent and commitment to maintain and enhance our industry-leading chocolate biscuit offering,” Mr. Field said.

Barry Callebaut earlier this month completed expansion investments in three of its North American facilities. The investments in total amount to about $30 million.

In St. Hyacinthe, Que., the company has added a liquid chocolate line and enhanced capabilities for producing dairy-free chocolate. In Chatham, Ont., Barry Callebaut has added liquid storage capacity to expand the variety of products available to customers. In St. Albans, Vt., the company has expanded the building footprint and enhanced its capabilities for making colored and flavored compounds, among other investments.
