BARRINGTON, ILL. — Virgil Del Ghingaro, who owned and led a specialty ingredient business for many years, died Sept. 28 in Barrington following an extended illness.

A native of Painesdale, Mich., Mr. Del Ghingaro was a veteran of the Korean War. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service.

Mr. Del Ghingaro acquired Brolite Products, a maker of baking ingredients such as cultures and starters, dough improvers, bases, mixes and concentrates. He was active in the business, now led by the second and third generations of his family, until just before his death.

In addition to his work, Mr. Del Ghingaro was an avid hockey player, coach and fan and enjoyed playing golf.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Patricia Del Ghingaro; children, Deborah (Michael) O’Donnell; Caryn (Steve) Roderick; and David (Kristen) Del Ghingaro; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a brother, Dean Del Ghingaro.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, 14600 Weston Parkway, Cary, N.C. 27513.

A visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 5 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 1023 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake. Interment will be private.
