OSKALOOSA, IOWA — Puris plans to introduce fava bean protein in 2019 as an ingredient for use in applications such as dry beverage blends, bars, snacks and plant-based meats. Completing an expanded second spray dryer at a facility in Wisconsin will allow Puris, a family-owned company based in Oskaloosa, to offer fava bean protein as well as expand capacity for pea protein.

“For the past couple of years, we had been sold out of the best-tasting pea protein in the market, but with the completion of our capacity increase of plant proteins produced in our Wisconsin production facility, not only can we can handle the scale and growth of the rapidly growing plant-based protein (consumer packaged goods) industry but also we felt it was time to introduce the newest member of our best-in-class tasting proteins: Puris fava protein,” said Tyler Lorenzen, president of Puris.

Puris will exhibit at SupplySide West scheduled for Nov. 6-10 in Las Vegas. The company there will sample gummies with pea starch, which may be more cost-efficient and sustainable than other forms of starch, according to Puris.

“We were able to create amazing gummies without needing gelatin or as much pectin,” said Jon Getzinger, chief marketing officer of Puris.
