CHICAGO — As consumers lean more toward health and wellness food patterns, ingredients with functional properties are top on their list, which includes fiber for digestive benefits. Discovering that 63% of consumers seek fiber in their diet, according to a report by The Hartman Group, Archer Daniels Midland Co. and Matsutani Chemical Industry Co. teamed up to create Fibersol.

This line of soluble prebiotic dietary fiber ingredients comes in a range of applications — dry, liquid, agglomerated powder and non-G.M.O. — and requires minimal formulation and process adjustments. Used in food and beverages, Fibersol is tasteless, odorless and adds minimal viscosity. It can also mask off notes, improve mouthfeel and has binding properties, according to the companies.

“Fibersol is an ideal drop-in solution for formulators who are responding to consumer desire for healthier foods, as Fibersol contains 90% dietary fiber and has a low-calorie content, having little to no impact on taste or texture,” said Doris Dougherty, Fibersol technical service representative, ADM. “It can help formulators increase the fiber content and improve the nutritional profile of virtually any food, beverage or supplement.”

Fibersol allows companies to include a variety of label claims such as sugar and calorie reduction, digestive health or weight management.

At SupplySide West 2018, held Nov. 8-10 in Las Vegas, ADM and Matsutani will showcase Fibersol at booth No. 4250 in two formats: fiber gummies with 4 grams of soluble corn fiber per serving and a digestive health cultured beverage with 6 grams of prebiotic fiber and 60% less sugar per 8-oz serving.
