COLDWATER, MICH. — Aunt Millie’s has announced plans to close its baking facility in Coldwater by mid-January 2019. The closing is expected to affect approximately 65 hourly bakery employees.

The company said it will maintain its Bakehouse frozen division in Coldwater.

“After careful analysis, we determined the need to close our Coldwater bakery,” said John F. Popp, president of Aunt Millie’s. “This is a part of a plan to optimize our bakery network. We reached this extremely difficult decision after thoroughly exploring other options.”

Earlier this year Aunt Millie’s closed its baking plant in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Aunt Millie’s has been family owned since 1901 and employs 1,600 people.  Aunt Millie’s operates five other bakeries, including three in Michigan, in Jackson, Kalamazoo and Plymouth. The other two are located in Lowell, Ind., and Sidney, Ohio.

Aunt Millie’s produces bread and bakery products that are distributed throughout the Midwest, and nationally.
