WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — J. Erik Fyrwald, chief executive officer of Syngenta, has been elected to the board of directors of Bunge Ltd., effective immediately.

Mr. Fyrwald has been c.e.o. of Syngenta since 2016. Earlier, he was president and c.e.o. of Univar, a distributor of chemicals and related services. He also previously was president of Ecolab, a provider of cleaning, sanitation, water treatment and oil and gas products and services, and chairman, president and c.e.o. of Nalco, a water treatment and oil and gas products and services company. In the mid-2000s he was group vice-president of the Agriculture and Nutrition division of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co.

He received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
