WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 1.6c per lb in January, while the price for whole wheat bread increased 1.6c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 127.4c, down 1.6c per lb from December and down 0.7c from January 2018. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in January declined in all four regions — down 4.1c in the Midwest, down 3.7c in the West, down 0.7c in the South and down 0.2c in the Northeast.

At 194c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 1.6c per lb from December but down 9.3c per lb from January 2018.

The national average price of family flour in January was 43.9c per lb, up 0.2c from December but down 3.2c from January 2018.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in January was 121.7c per lb, up 5.6c from December but down 0.1c from January 2018. Chocolate chip cookies were 346.6c per lb, down 6.1c from December and down 21.5c from January 2018. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 73c per lb, up 1.8c from December and up 4.8c from January 2018.
