WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread rose 2.4c per lb in April, while the price for whole wheat bread fell 1c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 128.5c, up 2.4c per lb from March and up 0.4c from April 2018. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in April increased in three regions — up 7.4c in the Midwest, up 1.4c in the Northeast and up 0.8c in the West — and was flat in one region — the South.

At 195.2c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 1c per lb from March and down 6.4c per lb from April 2018.

The national average price of family flour in April was 43.4c per lb, down 1.1c from March and down 3.8c from April 2018.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in April was 122.3c per lb, down 1.4c from March but up 4.7c from April 2018. Chocolate chip cookies were 342.6c per lb, up 11.5c from March and up 9.8c from April 2018. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 76.7c per lb, up 1c from March and up 8.2c from April 2018.
