MCLEAN, VA. — DoubleTree by Hilton cookies will be baked aboard the International Space Station later this year, becoming the first food baked fresh in outer space, according to the hotel chain. The project also involves Zero G Kitchen, a platform for food development in space.

Mike Massimino, a former NASA astronaut who has been on the space station, has joined the DoubleTree by Hilton team as an ambassador for hospitality in space.

The chain is selling a DoubleTree Cookies in Space tin of cookies on its web site and set up a #cookiesinspace hashtag on Twitter. A www.cookiesinspace.com web site is devoted to the project.
