LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND — Emmi Group, a Swedish food manufacturer, is acquiring Italian dessert maker Pasticceria Quadrifoglio srl. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Founded in 1978 by Claudio Canali and his family, Pasticceria Quadrifoglio creates fresh and frozen products such as pastries, cakes, gelatos and sorbets for the retail and food service sector. The company employs 90 workers at its two production sites in Modena, Italy. According to the group, the sweet goods producer’s sales reached €19 million ($21.1 million) in 2018.

Emmi said Pasticceria Quadrifoglio’s acquisition will complement its Emmi Dessert Italia brand and improve its position within the Italian food service sector, specifically in the catering segment. The addition of Pasticceria Quadrifoglio’s operations will enhance Emmi’s manufacturing and distribution capabilities, which includes three Italian facilities in Gattico, Pero and Lasnigo. Emmi said it will also capitalize on the dessert maker’s product development expertise to elevate the Dessert Italia brand.

Following the acquisition, the Canali family will continue to play a leading role in operating activities as Emmi gradually integrates its capabilities into the company.
