LOS ANGELES — Aryzta has announced plans to begin making Otis Spunkmeyer Supreme Muffins in Canada to accommodate growing demand for the product.

The muffins currently are baked at Aryzta’s facility in Cayce, S.C., but with the expansion now also will be produced at its baking plant in Ancaster, Ont.

“Expanding our Otis Spunkmeyer Supreme Muffin production into Ancaster will enable Aryzta to meet capacity needs for these popular muffins across North America and increase our market capabilities in Canada,” said Tyson Yu, chief operations officer, Aryzta North America. “This is the first time Aryzta is producing the Otis Spunkmeyer brand in Canada, and we’re excited to invest in, support and grow our Otis Spunkmeyer premium muffin line in the Canadian marketplace.”

According to Aryzta, the muffins have “the premium quality, look, texture and taste of fresh-baked signature items, accentuated by an upscale ‘tulip’-style cup.” The 4-oz muffins are available in five flavors: apple cinnamon pecan, blueberry crumb cake, chocolate chunk, triple berry whole grain, and banana bread.

Aryzta acquired the Ancaster plant as part of its 2014 acquisition of Pineridge Bakery. In addition to muffins the facility bakes bagels, croissants, cakes and sweet yeast goods.
