WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread rose 0.1c per lb in July, while the price for whole wheat bread increased 4.6c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 128.1c, up 0.1c per lb from June but down 1.2c from July 2018. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in July increased in two regions — up 1.1c in the South and up 0.6c in the Northeast — and declined in two regions — down 1.7c in the West and down 0.7c in the Midwest.

At 195.1c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 4.6c per lb from June and up 5.2c per lb from July 2018.

The national average price of family flour in July was 45.4c per lb, up 0.6c from June but down 1.4c from July 2018.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in July was 119.8c per lb, up 0.6c from June but down 0.6c from July 2018. Chocolate chip cookies were 346.8c per lb, down 3.6c from June and down 1.3c from July 2018. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 79.8c per lb, down 0.3c from June but up 10.8c from July 2018.
