WASHINGTON — In the first survey-based estimate of the 2020 crop, the US Department of Agriculture in its May Crop Production report forecast winter wheat production in the United States at 1,254,600,000 bus, down 49,403,000 bus, or 4%, from 1,304,003,000 bus in 2019 and compared with 1,183,939,000 bus in 2018.

Hard red winter wheat production in 2020 was forecast at 733,409,000 bus, down 12% from 833,181,000 bus in 2019.

The USDA forecast soft red winter wheat production at 297,527,000 bus, up 24% from 239,166,000 bus in 1019.

Hard white winter wheat production was forecast at 16,200,000 bus, down 19% from 19,954,000 bus in 2019. Soft white winter wheat production was forecast at 207,464,000 bus, down 2% from 211,702,000 bus in 2019.
