WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread increased 2.6¢ per lb in December, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the US Department of Labor. The increase follows a 3.3¢-per-lb increase in November. The price of whole wheat bread, meanwhile, held unchanged.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 187.3¢, up 2.6¢ per lb from November and up 34.1¢ from December 2021.

At 241.9¢ per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was unchanged from November but up 32¢ per lb from December 2021.

The national average price of family flour in December was 52.2¢, down 0.2¢ from November but up 13.4¢ from a year ago.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in December was 143.4¢ per lb, up 0.6¢ from November and up 34.2¢ from December 2021. Chocolate chip cookies were 497.4¢ per lb, up 3.2¢ per lb from November and up 88.5¢ from December 2021.

The national average price of white long-grain rice in December was 97.1¢, up 0.8¢ from November and up 15.1¢ from December 2021.
