The Allied Trades of the Baking Industry (ATBI) introduced a new slate of officers and board members during its business meeting held at the American Society of Baking’s BakingTech conference earlier this year.
Clay Miller, president of Burford Corp., a Middleby Bakery company, will serve as president, and Bill Gross, executive vice president and general manager, consumer East division, PPC Flexible Packaging, is now immediate past president. Peter Matthaei, chief executive officer, Dakota MB, will serve as first vice president, and James Boddicker, publisher of Baking & Snack, will serve as second vice president. Joe Marx, partner, D. Thomas and Associates, will be serving as secretary and treasurer. Each office is held for two years.
As ATBI president, Miller will serve on the board of the American Bakers Association (ABA). Miller noted that in the past few years associations such as ABA, the American Society of Baking, BEMA and ATBI have become more complementary in their efforts to move the baking industry in a positive direction.
“My goal for the next two years is to continue to align ourselves as a partner with the ABA but also to have these collaborative discussions and be a part of the bigger picture to continue to find ways to support the baking industry,” Miller said.
Miller joined the ATBI board in 2010 and joined the executive officers as secretary and treasurer in 2015. The ATBI, founded in 1920, serves the grain-based food industry through the cooperation of this large cross-section of suppliers to the wholesale baking industry. The depth of its board reflects this mission.
“Our board covers every aspect of the supply chain: milling, packaging, equipment and ingredients,” Miller pointed out. “ATBI puts you in a room with the experts for every part of the baking industry, which provides a much more well-rounded perspective of the challenges and opportunities facing our customers.”
