WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread was down 4.5¢ per lb in March, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the US Department of Labor. The decline comes on the heels of an unchanged February. The price of whole wheat bread also decreased, falling 4¢ per lb after dropping 0.1¢ per lb in February.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 188¢, down 4.5¢ from February and down 11.7¢ from March 2024.
At 271.9¢ per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 4¢ from February but up 13.4¢ per lb from March 2024.
The national average price of family flour in March was 56.5¢, up 0.4¢ from February but unchanged from a year ago.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in March was 137.9¢ per lb, down 0.2¢ from February and down 4.1¢ from March 2024. Chocolate chip cookies were 486.3¢ per lb, up 20.5¢ per lb from February but down 28.2¢ from March 2024.
The national average price of white long-grain rice in March was 103.8¢, up 0.8¢ from February and up 2.4¢ from March 2024.
