TORONTO — Commercial Bakeries Corp. has acquired cookie maker Hollandia Bakeries Ltd. and its Good Food Company Inc. distribution arm.
Financial terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed. Based in Toronto, Commercial Bakeries produces private label packaged cookies and crackers, focusing on premium, specialty, better-for-you, seasonal and limited-time products. The company, owned by Newtown, Pa.-based private equity firm Graham Partners, mainly serves the retail, co-manufacturing and bakery ingredient channels, partnering with grocery chains and brands across North America and internationally.
“We are excited to announce this strategic partnership with Commercial Bakeries and Graham Partners,” said Dan Simile, president of Mount Brydges, Ont.-based Hollandia Bakeries. “With this transaction, I anticipate significant benefits, including increased management support and investment to accelerate our growth trajectory. I am confident that this acquisition will help us continue to deliver high-quality baked goods while meeting the evolving demands of our clients. The hard-working team at Hollandia Bakeries are enthusiastic about this new chapter.”
Founded in 1954, Hollandia Bakeries makes hard and soft, gourmet, specialty, festive and sugar-free packaged cookies in a range of varieties under the Hollandia and “red label” brands, as well as tubs of Hollandia mini cookies. The company’s Mount Brydges baking plant houses multiple cookie manufacturing lines and packaging capabilities, which Commercial Bakeries said offer additional opportunities for the combined business.
Hollandia marks the second acquisition for Commercial Bakeries since its purchase by Graham Partners in September 2023. In May 2024, Commercial Bakeries acquired Sandusky, Ohio-based Imagine Baking Inc., which makes specialty and premium crackers, cookies, biscuits and brittle, primarily for the gluten-free and organic categories.
Commercial Bakeries noted that the addition of Hollandia, along with the Imagine acquisition, expand its capabilities and enable the company to capitalize on a rising trend toward high-quality, private label baked snacks.
“We are delighted to welcome Dan Simile and the entire Hollandia Bakeries team into our expanded bakery network,” said Shawn Warren, chief executive officer of Commercial Bakeries since December 2023. “We are confident that together we will accelerate towards our vision of 'Baking Up Better' every day and in every way.”He added, "Hollandia Bakeries will be a terrific addition to our expanding bakery network, as they have strong capabilities in seasonal cookies, such as gingerbread, soft-baked cookies and portion-pack cookie capabilities for various retail channels."
