The BEMA Convention’s strength is its unique networking opportunities and the connections they forge. The annual event brings together equipment and ingredient suppliers with bakers to learn how they can address the challenges facing the industry. This year’s convention, held June 25-28 in Coco Beach, Puerto Rico, will prove to be no exception.
“BEMA Convention is a different level of connection,” said Clay Miller, BEMA chairman and president of Burford Corp., a Middleby Bakery brand. “There are so many opportunities for one-on-one and small group interactions with the bakers who are in the know and making decisions at their companies. Couple that with the family-friendly environment and it’s a golden opportunity to connect with customers. It’s the heart of the convention.”
BEMA Convention is differentiated by the fact that guests are encouraged to bring spouses and children. This year will offer BEMA Kids Connect to engage children with games and crafts as they form their own friendships. A theme dinner will reflect the location, Sabor y Ritmo: A Salsa Celebration. These events will round out other BEMA standards such as the small group dinners and BEMA Connect, where bakers and suppliers meet one-on-one to discuss the bakers’ needs in operations and R&D.
“While honoring BEMA’s mission to connect, educate and provide resources to members, our convention continues to prioritize the longstanding traditions and family-friendly spirit that make it a truly special experience,” said Kerwin Brown, president and chief executive officer, BEMA. “Networking opportunities are designed for all ages, beginning with a fun ‘BEMA Kid’s Connect’ event. Whether attending solo or with family, guests will be immersed in the vibrant culture of Puerto Rico during the always unforgettable theme dinner.”
In addition to its networking events, BEMA will be offering its members a chance to hear from bakers themselves throughout educational programming. A regional baker panel will provide insights from Caribbean bakers on the needs of the area’s commercial bakers. Another baker panel will spotlight a variety of categories, such as sweet goods, bread and buns, tortillas, and how their needs are similar and different. The Ask-A-Baker Lunch provides the opportunity for BEMA members to ask a panel of bakers any burning questions they have. Carolyn Lee, president and executive director of The Manufacturing Institute, will share strategies and solutions that will help the industry address its workforce challenges.
Throughout the programming, attendees will also get an update on the International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE), held Sept. 13-17, in Las Vegas. BEMA Intel will also be noted throughout the programming, providing attendees insights into the health of the baking industry, both at a baker and supplier level.
“From casual moments to curated small group dinners, both business relationships and friendships will be formed and strengthened,” Brown said. “Attendees will leave the convention with new insights, expanded networks and cherished memories.”
