September liquid egg products down 11%

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in September was 228,003,000 lbs, down 11% from September 2010, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.

September production of edible liquid whole eggs was 142,076,000 lbs, down 3% from August and down 12% from September 2010; liquid whites were 56,654,000 lbs, down 1% from August and down 9% from September 2010; liquid yolks were 29,273,000 lbs, up 1% from August but down 6% from September 2010; and inedible production was 19,391,000 lbs, down 2% from August and down 10% from September 2010.

Shell eggs broken in September were 176,058,000 dozen, down 3% from August and down 11% from the previous year.

January–September production of edible whole eggs was 1,234,918,000 lbs, down 3% from the same period of the previous year; whites were 525,007,000 lbs, up 5%; yolks were 268,294,000 lbs, up 9%; inedible production was 173,544,000 lbs, down 1%; and total edible liquid product was 2,028,219,000 lbs, up slightly from the previous year.
