A snack product is prepared by coating a core with at least two layers, while a coating layer of a dough material located farther inward expands more strongly than an outer layer. The outer coating layer is broken on a part of the surface of the core; thereupon, the thus coated core is heated. A completely new and distinguishing exterior is formed as the inner core breaks through the outer layer.
