Kamut Khorasan wheat and flour sales increased more than 5% in 2008, according to Kamut International, Great Falls, Mont. Purchases in Europe rose 6.4% while purchases in the United States rose 0.2%. In 2008, 41,900 acres were in production, up 18% from 35,300 acres in 2007.

"We are proud our organic farmers remain committed to growing this nutritious and delicious wheat and that manufacturers around the world are increasingly seeking it out," said Trevor Blyth, who became chief executive officer of Kamut International on Jan. 1.
