CENTENNIAL, COLO. — Frank Velzen, biscuit and cracker industry veteran, passed away on Jan. 16 at the age of 89. He is remembered as a great educator, a beloved father and a fixture in the baking community.
Mr. Velzen began his career in the baking industry in 1951. He was a longtime employee of Keebler Co., Battle Creek, Mich., retiring from the company in 1989.
Mr. Velzen served on the Education Committee of the Biscuit and Cracker Manufacturers’ Association (B.&C.M.A.) from the mid-1960s until 2012, developing coursework and helping to strengthen the association’s education programs. He received a B.&C.M.A. Tribute of Appreciation in 2011 for his years of hard work and dedication.
Mr. Velzen’s wife, Sylvia B. Velzen, died in 2014. He is survived by his children, Russ (Diane), Kathy, and Mark (Glenna); grandchildren, Kendra (Chris), Alex (Michaela), Jenn (Mark) and Travis; and great-grandson, Mark.
