Mr. Cohen’s presentation will focus on the chamber’s programs that help veterans re-enter the workforce.
Additionally, AIB International will talk about how it is partnering with baking companies to provide internships and employment opportunities to military veterans. It also discusses how companies can tap this community of veterans, many of whom have food service experience or maintenance and repair skills that are vital to bakery operations.
Also on the program, Peter Susser, shareholder and chair at Littler, a Washington, DC-based international employment law practice group, serves as the featured speaker and will guide attendees through the expected maze of regulations coming our way in 2013.
Mr. Susser will address topics such as an ambush election proposal that the National Labor Relations Board tried to pass last year but got held back due to procedural issues. Also, he will discuss reclassification of independent contractors and how the Obama administration may move forward with “Right to Know” proposals that would significantly impact the way companies use independent contractors despite that Congress is unlikely to support reforming Section 530 Safe Harbor Laws.
Judith Wethall, shareholder at Littler, is schedule to present on “To Pay or Play, Here to Stay: An in-depth look at the employer pay or play mandate.” She will present a clear synopsis of the 2014 mandate, including calculations of penalties.
