PHOENIX — Simply Bread, a provider of European bread to retail and restaurant locations throughout Arizona, has ceased operations, according to The Arizona Republic.
The company cited problems with its lender, a struggling Michigan-based bank, for its shutdown.
“Our bank over five years has been experiencing unfortunate and significant challenges which, in turn, have become our challenges,” Harold Back, president of Simply Bread, told The Arizona Republic. “We have looked diligently for solutions but the reality is that there is no choice but to cease operating and close our doors. It has been a heartbreaking decision to have to make and it was not made lightly. We are personally devastated at the impact it will have on all of the people who have supported us over the past five years.”
Founded in 2006, Simply Bread had 1,400 retail and restaurant customers, including several of Arizona’s top restaurants. The company baked and sold about 100,000 loaves a day from its Chandler and Phoenix commissaries. Company inventory included 200 products such as bread, rolls, bagels, pizza dough, cookie dough and granola.
