CLEVELAND — The GanedenBC30 probiotic strains are now available for use in Mexico as ingredients in foods and beverages, according to Ganeden Biotech, Inc. The COFEPRIS (Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios) approved the strains.
GanedenBC30 (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086) is a spore-former, which makes it stable and allows it to remain viable through most manufacturing processes, three years of shelf life and the low pH of stomach acid, according to Ganeden Biotech, Maryland Heights, Ohio.
"There are many opportunities in Mexico for a probiotic such as GanedenBC30,” said Laura Colin, Latin America business development manager of Ganeden Biotech. “Mexico’s government has instituted a number of health initiatives to promote better education regarding proper nutrition and healthier eating habits. The sale of junk food has been banned from schools, and television advertising of high-calorie foods and high sugar content beverages has been restricted to specific hours. Mexicans are becoming increasingly health conscious and are interested in functional foods and beverages.”
Ganeden Biotech will exhibit Oct. 1-2 at the Food Technology Summit & Expo in Mexico City.
