WASHINGTON — Frozen stocks of butter and cheese on Oct. 31 were greater than year-earlier levels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Cold Storage report.
Total natural cheese stocks were 968,406,000 lbs, down 2% from levels during the previous month but up 17% from the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Butter stocks were 195,063,000 lbs, down 14% from the previous month but up 31% from October 2008.
Total frozen egg stocks on Oct. 31 were 22,217,000 lbs, up 3% from September but down 1% from October 2008. Stocks of egg whites were 2,798,000 lbs, up 6% from the previous month but down 14% from the previous year. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 1,273,000 lbs, down 14% from the previous month but up 32% from the previous year. Whole and mixed egg stocks came in at 9,136,000, up 3% from the previous month and year.
Turkey stocks totaled 510,896,000 lbs, down 17% from September and down 12% from October 2008, while total chicken stocks were 632,274,000 lbs, equal to levels from the previous month but down 20% from the previous year. Overall, total frozen poultry supplies were 1,148,421,000 lbs, down 8% from the previous month and down 16% from the previous year.
Total red meat supplies were 970,830,000 lbs, down 1% from September and down 6% from October 2008. Total frozen beef stocks were 426,361,000 lbs, down 1% from the previous month and down 9% from the previous year. Frozen pork stocks totaled 520,130,000 lbs, down 2% from September and down 1% from October 2008. Frozen pork belly stocks were 37,006,000 lbs, down 4% from September but up 71% from October 2008.
Total frozen vegetable stocks 2,738,356,000 lbs, up 4% from September and the previous year.
Stocks of frozen french fries were 947,555,000 lbs, up 2% from September but down 1% from October 2008.
Stocks of all types of frozen fruit totaled 1,502,246,000 lbs, up 25% from September and up 8% from the previous year.
Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate were 1,115,016,000 lbs, down 8% from the previous month but up 3% from the previous year.
Fresh apples in regular and controlled storage totaled 6,159,672,000 lbs, up 91% from the previous month and down 4% from the previous year.
