DALLAS — Michael J. Nolan has been named executive vice-president and chief development officer at Corner Bakery Cafe. In his new role he will oversee the company’s franchise development program and target market strategy.
Mr. Nolan has more than 25 years of leadership experience, including executive management positions with Panera Bread Co. and Bloomin’ Brands, Inc. among other restaurant chains. Most recently, he was senior vice-president and chief development officer-worldwide at Bloomin’ Brands, directing the global restaurant development strategy of the company’s five brands: Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion.
Prior to Bloomin’ Brands, Mr. Nolan spent more than a decade at Panera, where he held several executive positions, including senior vice-president, chief development officer and managing director for Canada. Before joining Panera, he was senior vice-president for John Harvard’s Brew House and on the board of directors for American Hospitality Concepts, Inc. He also was vice-president of real estate and development for Apple South, Inc., an Applebee’s franchise group; vice-president of real estate and development for Morrison Restaurants, Inc.; and held various real estate positions with Cardinal Industries, Nolan Development and Investments.

Blake Bernethas been promoted from senior vice-president and general counsel to chief legal officer. Mr. Bernet joined Corner Bakery Cafe in 1996 and previously held the position of general counsel and senior vice-president of development where, in addition to his legal responsibilities, he led the evolution of the building prototype and growth of the brand from 50 to 165 units.
