On Thursday, the American Society of Baking's (ASB) Board of Directors approved the development of programs to address the educational and training needs of bakery engineers, machinists, and mechanics. The developing proposal includes targeted educational sessions during the annual conference BakingTech, regional workshops, and a certification program. A Task Force will be assembled during the coming weeks to develop a more detailed proposal with input from the wholesale baking industry, and presented to the Board for approval in Mar. 2017 during BakingTech.
In 1924, the American Society of Bakery Engineers (ASBE) began with the mission of educating and training its members. ASB’s mission and educational programs have changed over the years to meet the needs of the more diverse bakery employees and ASB members. The name was also changed to the American Society of Baking, “ASB,” to reflect the expanded mission.
ASB Chairman Mario Somoza stated, “The proposed program is a natural fit for ASB and supports our mission of bringing together individuals in the grain-based food industry for professional development, recognition, education, and leadership. This initiative addresses a gap in the industry identified by our members so we look forward to working with them on a comprehensive program during the coming months."
