CHICAGO — A flour recall linked to flour sourced from an Archer Daniels Midland Co. flour mill in Buffalo, N.Y., has been expanded to include another company’s product.
Hometown Food Co. on June 14 initiated a voluntary recall of two specific lot codes of its Pillsbury Best 5-lb Bread Flour due to the potential presence of E. coli.
According to Hometown Food, approximately 4,620 cases of the flour were distributed to a limited number of retailers and distributors across 10 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
“At Hometown Food Co., nothing is more important than the safety and integrity of our products,” Hometown Food said. “There have been no reports of any illnesses associated with this product, and this recall has been issued out of an abundance of caution. Hometown Food Co. has been informed by ADM Milling Co. that certain wheat used to make these two lots of Pillsbury Best 5-lb Bread Flour has been linked to E. coli illnesses associated with other flour products produced at the ADM mill in Buffalo. Please visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s web site for more information on this illness outbreak. To date, no illnesses associated with Pillsbury Best Bread Flour have been reported.”
Hometown Food’s announcement came a day after Norwich, Vt.-based King Arthur Flour, Inc. voluntarily recalled 14,218 cases of 5-lb Unbleached All-Purpose Flour due to the potential presence of E. coli. The recalled flour was distributed nationwide to retailers such as ShopRite, Target and Walmart. The recall does not include any products sold through the King Arthur Flour web site, Baker’s Catalogue or the Baker’s Store in Norwich. Aldi also has recalled its Baker’s Corner All Purpose Flour sold at retail locations in the northeastern United States in connection with the recall.
