WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread rose 2.1c per lb in September, while the price for whole wheat bread decreased 0.5c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 129.6c, up 2.1c per lb from August and up 0.8c from September 2018. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in September increased in three regions — up 8.3c in the West, up 2.8c in the South and up 2.5c in the Midwest — and declined in one region — down 4.4c in the Northeast.
At 193.5c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 0.5c per lb from August and down 1.6c per lb from September 2018.
The national average price of family flour in September was 44.9c per lb, down 0.1c from August and down 1.8c from September 2018.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in September was 118.4c per lb, down 3.1c from August and down 1.6c from September 2018. Chocolate chip cookies were 358.7c per lb, up 9.1c from August and up 13.7c from September 2018. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 79.7c per lb, up 0.4c from August and up 10.4c from September 2018.
