WASHINGTON — The Kroger Co., Cincinnati, has recalled Kroger Deluxe S’mores Ice Cream sold in its stores due to the potential presence of an undeclared peanut residue.
The recalled ice cream is packaged in 48-oz tubs with “sell by” dates ranging from May 20, 2017, to May 23, 2017. The product is sold in all stores operating under the Kroger, Dillons, Baker’s, Gerbes, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, JayC, King Soopers, City Market, QFC, Ralphs and Smith’s names, with stores located in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.
Individuals with a peanut allergy may have a severe reaction if they consume the product. For those who are not allergic to peanuts, the product is safe, Kroger said. No customer illnesses had been reported as of July 9.
Kroger initiated the recall after its supplier, Grain Craft, indicated a raw ingredient in the ice cream may contain low levels of peanut residue.
The recall is the latest in a series announced in recent weeks by users of soft wheat flour. Affected products have included Kellogg snacks and cookies, Hostess snack cakes, Rold Gold pretzels Combos baked snacks and Armour Snackmakers Keebler Animal Crackers.
