WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 1.1c per lb in October, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. Meanwhile, the price of whole wheat bread decreased 4.1c per lb in the month.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 127.7c, down 1.1c per lb from September and down 5.1c from October 2017. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in October increased in two regions — up 3.7c in the South and up 3.6c in the Midwest — and fell in two regions — down 9.3c in the West and down 3.3c in the Northeast.

At 191c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 4.1c per lb from September and down 9.9c per lb from October 2017.

The national average price of family flour in October was 45.3c per lb, down 1.4c per lb from September and down 4.7c from October 2017.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in October was 113.8c per lb, down 6.2c from September and down 12.1c from October 2017. Chocolate chip cookies were 345.6c per lb, up 0.5c from September but down 5.5c from October 2017. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 68.5c per lb, down 0.8c from September and down 3.8c from October 2017.
